Document classificationEvery document in a mixed batch knows what it is
Combine rules you can read with a classifier trained on your own samples. Anything DocView is unsure about goes to a person, not to your systems.

Three ways to classify
Choose automatic, rules only, model only, rules then model, or model then rules.
Rule list
An ordered list of rules: keywords, patterns, barcode value, page count or size, or a JavaScript rule. The first match decides, and no match goes to review.
Learnt layouts
"Learn the layout from samples" builds a layout rule and tells you how well it separates the type from others, for example language versions of a form.
Trained classifier
Train from your own sample documents and get a training and accuracy report. The model can also act as a rule with a minimum confidence.
A confidence threshold for each document type
Set the threshold per document type. Below it, the document goes to DocView Review, where an operator confirms it with the page in front of them.
- Test button: classify samples and see the scores per type
- Reports on classification accuracy
- A new document can start when the type changes

Classify incoming post from day one
The mailroom template classifies incoming post as invoice, order, complaint, change of address, legal letter or other, and reads the sender, reference and date for routing.
Batch split then sends each type to the right team. See digital mailroom.

Classification questions
Do I need training data to start?
No. Rule lists and templates work without training a model. If you want a trained classifier, it is trained from your own sample documents.
What happens when DocView is not sure?
Documents below the confidence threshold for their type, or that match no rule, go to DocView Review for an operator to confirm.
Can I test classification before going live?
Yes. The test button classifies samples and shows the scores per type, and a trained model comes with a training and accuracy report.
